ampersands

Did you know that ampersands were originally the most common ligatures? I think I knew that, but was refreshed when doing a blog post about ligatures for work. Of course we don't refer to ampersands as ligatures anymore, but made their debut as the combination of the letters "e" and "t", et, the Latin word for and. So there yah go! Fun fact for the day.
